Checksheets

Your graduate checksheet lists all of your course requirements and is an important tool to help you plan for future terms. Keeping your checksheet up to date from your first term will help you stay on track for graduation. You can download your checksheet from the links below. If you are a School Library Media student, please contact your Advisor directly for a checksheet.

Pathfinders

Pathfinders are available for the MS LIS and MSIS programs to help students organize their plan of study based on their program requirements and full or part time status. You can review Pathfinder on the iSchool website in the following locations:

         MS LIS Pathfinders

         MSIS Pathfinders

What To Take When - Recommended Order of Classes

Students can take one or more courses per term. It is not recommended that a student enroll in more than four classes at one time. The information below are guidelines for you to tailor to your full or part time status.

MS Students

For NEW MS LIS students: We recommend you begin your coursework with INFO 522, INFO 521, or INFO 520.

For subsequent terms, we recommend taking the remainder of your core classes (INFO 515 and INFO 530), except for INFO 640. INFO 640 should ideally be taken later in your program. Please note that this is a recommendation only and can be modified based on student preference and course availability. Once you have satisfied a pre-req for a course, you are eligible to register for that course in DrexelOne.

MSIS Students

For those in the MSIS program, we recommend that students complete all of their Foundation courses before beginning their core classes, if possible. You will find that many of the Foundation courses are prerequisites to core courses. If you have fulfilled your Foundation Courses, many students find it helpful to begin their Core Courses with INFO 608 and INFO 540.

MSSE Students

Students in the MSSE program should complete all of their Entrance Requirements before beginning their core classes, if possible.

Course Offerings

In trying to decide what course to take in any given term, you can reference upcoming course offerings on the SRC Term Master Schedule.  To find courses in the winter term, for instance, you will look under Winter Quarter and then College of Info Sci and Tech. This site is updated with course information as it becomes available.

Graduate level courses are INFO 500 classes and above. If you mouse over the blue section numbers, you can view how many seats are available in each class. If you click on a section number, you can view the full course description, prerequisite requirements, and other pertinent course information. Please note that classes may appear to have more seats open than actually available; seat availability on the SRC Term Master Schedule does not update in real time.

Proposed Course Offerings

If you are wondering what will be offered in future terms, you can also reference the Proposed Course Offerings section of the iSchool website. On this page, you can see what courses the iSchool is planning to offer both online and oncampus in the upcoming academic year.

It is very important to note that these courses are proposed and not guaranteed; actual course offerings may vary and are subject to change. While the Proposed Course Offerings webpage is a very valuable tool, please keep in mind it is for planning purposes only and may change.

Help Selecting Classes and Instructors

Each term, two discussions boards will open on Blackboard where students can discuss registration concerns and issues. You are welcome to participate in the discussions, share ideas, syllabi, and other feedback. The discussion board is a great place to post questions about courses, career paths, and other general concerns.

Other websites such as dureview.com and drexelreview.com are available for students to rate and review both courses and faculty members. These sites are not monitored or endorsed by the University.

Course Descriptions and Prerequisites

You can find full course descriptions and prerequisite information at either the Proposed Course Offerings link above or in the University Course Catalog found at: http://coreapp1.drexel.edu/webcourses/

It is very important to pay close attention to any prerequisite courses that you may need to fulfill, especially in selecting your free electives. If you attempt to register for a course in DrexelOne and have not satisfied the prerequisite, you will receive a registration error.

Requesting a Prerequisite Waiver

If you would like to take a class and have not yet satisfied the prerequisite, you can request written permission to enroll in the course. Approval to waive the prerequisite may be dependent on your academic and work history. If you are requesting a prerequisite waiver request for a required course it does not exempt you from completing that course in the future.

Using your Drexel email address, please submit an online prerequisite request form to your Advisor.

Once your waiver request has been reviewed, you will be contacted by your Advisor. If you have received permission to enroll in a course without a prerequisite, your Advisor will assist you with registration. Written approval is required prior to registration.
Transferring Credits

Students may be eligible to transfer credits from either outside of Drexel or from another College within Drexel. All credits earned outside of the iSchool must be approved prior to transfer. Please use the Transfer Credit Form to seek approval for credits outside of the iSchool.

Temple Archives

Temple Archives is a special option program for MS LIS students. This program is offered through Temple University and requires students to attend class on the Temple campus. Archive classes are not guaranteed; course registration and billing is managed by Temple University. Credits taken through the Temple Archive special option are eligible for transfer to the iSchool as free elective classes. Please visit the iSchool website for more information regarding Temple Archives classes and relative financial aid information.

International Students Course Planning

Full time international students must register for a minimum of three courses per term. International students are only permitted to register for one online course per term. There are no exceptions to this rule. Please speak to ISSS for more information or to find out about your particular academic/ work regulations.
