In honor of its 15th birthday, March 17, 2010, the “IPL 15 Things” has introduced the last of its favorite online technologies, with background information, best practices, related readings, examples of how the ipl2 is using the technology, and hands-on exercises. This and other training material have been developed as part of a grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

In 1995, it took 35 students 70 days to develop what would become the world’s largest and most recognized free, online collection and reference service in the world: the Internet Public Library (IPL). With its 91,982 reference questions and 40,000 vetted, searchable electronic resource items, the IPL celebrates its 15th anniversary!

In conjunction with this event, The iSchool at Drexel, College of Information Science and Technology, hosted the Institute on the Future of Reference and its Impact on Library and Information Science Education this week on March 15-16. The institute was part of the IMLS grant "Transforming the IPL into a Virtual Learning Laboratory." Faculty, students and staff from Drexel, Florida State University, The University of Washington, The University of Illinois, The University of North Carolina, Syracuse University and the Free Library of Philadelphia participated in the institute.
