School Library Media Specialization

Description
The course sequences are designed for students who elect to work in K-12 programs in both private and public schools. A supervised field study is required for Pennsylvania Library Science K-12 certification to teach in Pennsylvania public schools. This certification may be transferable to most states.

Graduates of this Program:
  • Operate and manage libraries and media centers
  • Work collaboratively in a community of educational practice
  • Collaborate with school teaching and learning community
  • Apply teaching and learning theory to the design, implementation and assessment of student learning
  • Provide instruction for effective use of technology in the teaching and learning program
  • Integrate information literacy skills into the curriculum
  • Select, evaluate and organize resources for learning
  • Develop web pages and portals to make resources available
  • Help to create an information environment supportive of all ethnicities
  • Partner with other entities in the community that serve children and young adults
  • Act as change agents, leaders, and resource guides
  • Advocate for library programs and services for children and young adults
  • Provide leadership in the field
  • Actively participate in professional organizations
