Dr. Garrison joined Drexel University in 1968 as Professor and Dean, serving in that capacity until 1987 when he became Alice B. Kroeger Professor, continuing in that role until his retirement in 1992. He is a life member of the American Library Association and held many committee appointments in that organization. In 1992 he received from ALA the Beta Phi Mu award for contributions to library and information science education nationally and internationally. He was active also in the Association for Library and Information Science Education, serving on the Board of Directors, 1970-76, and as President, 1976-77. His major academic interests were public library organization, governance and support, and education for the information profession. Among his chief accomplishments at Drexel University were the establishment of a Ph.D. program in 1975 and of an innovative B.S. program in information systems in 1984. |
