INFO 424 Team Project Practicum

Catalog Course Description
Provides a hands-on experience with software systems development in a controlled environment.  Students work in small teams to create a software product selected by the instructor.  Activities include requirements specification, test specification, design, and software construction.  Provides students with an opportunity to tie together understanding of development life cycle phases.

Pre-requisites and Co-requisites
INFO 355  Systems Analysis II

Curriculum Role
This is a required course for BSIS and BSIT majors

Course Rationale
This course provides a single term team project experience.  It allows students to integrate material from earlier courses and develop skills related to working in teams

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
• Discuss roles and success factors for a team members on an IT project
• Apply analysis and design methodologies learned in the information systems curriculum
• Select and apply appropriate software construction techniques

Course Content
Principal topics and the approximate number of weeks devoted to each are:
Course activities are built around a term project done in teams (about 3-6 students).  Some classes are devoted to lectures or other class activities to help students understand the software development process selected for the class.  Many class sessions are devoted to review, discussion, and guidance by the instructor of the team project.
