Catalog Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the principles and practices of database administration, particularly as they apply to commercial-grade relational database management systems.  The course will include, but not be limited to, installation, systems tuning, application tuning, security, user management, backup and recovery.  To this end, internals of RDBMSs will be discussed, using major commercial RDBMSs as examples.  Distributed database issues will also be discussed.  As time permits, other advanced issues will be addressed.  As time permits, other advanced issues will be addressed, such as issues of object and object-relational databases.

INFO 365  Database Administration I

Curriculum Role:
This course presents advanced technology for database administration. This course is offered for students who finished Database Administration I.

Course Rationale:
This course establishes and provides the necessary techniques and theory for students wanting to become a database management system administrator.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
• Tune a database for various requirements to optimize database performance
• Create single-level and multi-level indexing for relational databases
• Create database integrity constraints and modify them as needed.
• Acquire the knowledge of relational database architecture
• Describe redo log files, groups, and members.
• Implement system and object privileges
• Use resource control of relational databases
