Catalog Course Description:
Introduction to information security in modern organizations. An examination of what information security is, and what motivates organizations to consider information security as a high priority. Introduces legal, ethical and professional issues, risk management, security planning, security technologies, and security implementation and maintenance.

Curriculum Role:
Provides an introduction to information security in modern organizations for BSIS and BSIT students considering a focus in security and assurance in their degree program,  co-op positions and professional work.

Course Rationale:
Information security is rapidly changing its position and influence among the other aspects of information systems and technology study and practice. This course ensures a modern, up-to-date perspective of the foundations of information security is presented to our students.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
Articulate why and how information security is important to modern organizations
Express how security risks are identified and managed
Create a basic security plan for an organization
Describe how information security is managed
Express the functions of modern security technologies
