Catalog Course Description:
Focuses on the nature, acquisition, and use of knowledge assets and on their strategic value in organizations.  Examines the role of information professionals in organizing, managing, and providing access to these important assets.

Pre-requisites and Co-requisites:
Pre-requisite INFO643 Information Services in Organization

Curriculum Role:
A required course in the MS(LIS) Competitive Intelligence & Knowledge Management concentration.  It is taken by students interested in managing knowledge assets and meeting information needs in special library, corporate, and other organizational settings.  It is usually taken near the end of the concentration.

Course Rationale:
The course prepares students to evaluate an organization’s information needs and to provide access to its knowledge assets.  It also prepares students to evaluate the effectiveness of knowledge-sharing efforts within organizations.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
• Demonstrate an understanding of the nature and role of knowledge assets in organizations.
• Apply commonly-used techniques to identify and evaluate an organization’s knowledge assets.
• Apply fundamental concepts of knowledge acquisition and use to create knowledge-sharing opportunities within organizations
• Demonstrate an understanding of the role of information professionals in organizing, managing, and providing access to knowledge assets.
