Beyond education and research, the iSchool aims to connect to its community both within the Philadelphia community and beyond. Through various programs, labs, and individual work by students, alumni, faculty, and staff, the College maintains relationships with various philanthropic and non-profit organizations, provides outreach services, and makes available educational opportunities and services to residents from underprivileged areas.

Labs and Organizations Within the iSchool or Those Receiving iSchool Support Include:

ipl2 is a public service organization and a learning/teaching environment. To date, thousands of students and volunteer library and information science professionals have been involved in answering reference questions for its Ask an ipl2 Librarian service and in designing, building, creating and maintaining the ipl2's collections. It is through the efforts of these students and volunteers that the ipl2 continues to thrive to this day.

The Institute for Healthcare Informatics
Through the IHI, researchers seek more effective ways to leverage technology to improve patient care. The connectivity created by the IHI has played a role at the 11th Street Family Health Services Center of Drexel University, a state-of-the-art, nurse-managed health center providing area residents with a transdisciplinary model of care. This facility is unique in its approach to providing quality healthcare, providing patients treatment for their ailments, as well as addressing lifestyle issues that can affect health throughout their lifecycles.

Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Analysis Laboratory
GISSA is based in the iSchool and is a multidisciplinary center for GIScience research and development that leverages iSchool strengths in information systems, software engineering, artificial intelligence and database management to facilitate information discovery, data visualization and spatial analytical support for Drexel University, the city of Philadelphia and beyond, including the School of Public Health and support to the Powelton rejuvenation project, among others.

The Math Forum @ Drexel
Researchers at the iSchool conduct research and provide support to the Math Forum in the field of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning. The Math Forum is the leading online resource for improving math learning, teaching, and communication since 1992.

Drexel University Computing Academy (DUCA)
DUCA is a five-week, residential summer learning experience at Drexel University. DUCA students explore all computing degree programs at Drexel University, including information systems, computer science, game design and animation, engineering, the management of technology, and beyond. Scholarships are available for those students showing financial need.
